OURSPOT at Tom Jones
A full-on camping experience — minus the full-on hassle.
Tucked away in the heart of Harriman State Park, this OurSpot setup near the Tom Jones Lean-To is your perfect weekend escape. It’s a real-deal backpacking experience, but with everything set up for you before you arrive.
How It Works:
Your adventure begins with a scenic hike to your check-in spot at Tom Jones Shelter. Depending on your chosen trailhead, you'll enjoy either a brief 0.5-mile uphill walk or a more extended 3.6-mile trek. We recommend the shorter hike from the Kanawauke Rd Ramapo-Dunderberg Trailhead for an easy and scenic hike. We'll greet you at the shelter, walk you through your fully prepared campsite, and from that moment, your only job is to unwind and soak in nature.
Your Site:
It includes everything you need:
-
A cozy tent with sleeping gears
-
A full camp kitchen with cookware, stove, and utensils
-
Lighting, chairs, and a few extra comforts
We take care of the gear, the setup, and the logistics — you just show up with a daypack, a sense of adventure, and a few personal essentials (clothing, snacks, a book, etc.).
This isn’t glamping. It’s real, wild camping — made easy. You’ll hike, hang out, eat under the stars, sleep surrounded by trees, and wake up to birdsong (instead of emails).
Getting to the Trailhead:
By car:
Park directly at the Kanawauke Rd Ramapo-Dunderberg Trailhead (recommended for most scenic access), or alternatively at the Victory Trailhead. Both offer overnight parking and an approximately 0.5-mile uphill hike to Tom Jones Shelter.
From NYC (Public Transportation):
Option A (Bus): Take the Shortline Hudson bus (Click to check schedule) from Port Authority to Rt 17 & Liberty Rd - Tuxedo
Option B (Train): Take the PATH to Hoboken, then transfer to NJ Transit’s Port Jervis Line (Click to check schedule) exiting at Tuxedo Station.
Upon arrival at Tuxedo Station (either by bus or train), you have two ways to reach the trailhead:
-
Uber (Highly Recommended): Call an Uber about 10 minutes before your arrival at Tuxedo Station for a quick and convenient ride directly to the Kanawauke Rd Ramapo-Dunderberg Trailhead. Estimated fare is around $20-$30
-
Walking (Longer Option): Walk ~0.5 miles from Tuxedo Station to the Tuxedo Ramapo-Dunderberg Trailhead, followed by a ~3.6-mile hike to your site.
Returning to NYC:
For your convenience, we recommend pre-booking a local taxi service to ensure your timely return from your selected trailhead to Tuxedo Station:
